Willys Rock

Willy's Rock is a unique tourist attraction. It is clearly a large piece of rock that has been shaped by volcanic activity and it juts out over the waters near the beach. What makes it unique is that it virtually becomes a mini-island when the tide is low. When the tide rises, only the upper part of the rock is shown. Willy's rock is very dark in contrast to the white sands that surround it. It isn't a eyesore but it is something that makes newcomers want to explore it.

Willy's rock is not very attractive in terms of color. It is basically a blackish grey color, since it is a formation of volcanic rock. Upon closer inspection, one might see bits and pieces of coral and other materials mixed with it. This goes to show tourists that Boracay island itself has a lot fo rich materials and can prove to be an asset in the near future.

Willy's rock is very famous landmark and it has found its way into postcards of all sorts. It is clearly the most photographed location on the island, next to the beach itself. People really make it a point to visit the place.

To reach Willy's rock, one can simply walk to it for it is about 90 meters from the shore, north of boat station 1. There are no entrance fees or any sort and one can attest to the quiet tranquility the place holds. Although it is placed on the beach edge, Willy's rock holds a good view of Nassog point as well as other sights.

Many people have always regarded Boracay as a sort of heaven. Some people have attributed the white sands as a form of purity and cleansing. A lot of local folklore is based on the ways of nature and how they affect the daily lives of people.

As in most cases, there is a lot of folklore related to an island setting such as mermaids and the like. Stories of the furies and other mythical creatures are rumored to exist in the area. Considering that the island is not commercialized, a lot of myths and others can be expected. One should expect stories to be told about them when in town.

To some of the natives, Willy's rock is a place where people go to realize that no matter how much the island evolves into a commercial place, there would always be a place for something of this to symbolize a "back to nature feel".
