Rotary Club of Boracay
The Rotary Club of Boracay was officially established on July 2nd, 1997. It is one of the many Philippine branches of the infamous organization, the Rotary International. In the beginning, the Rotary Club of Boracay only had 25 members working on community service and environmental protection. At present, the membership has risen significantly and its projects span a bigger area. Aside from the Boracay Island, their projects reach the areas of Malay, Nabas and Buruanga.
Just like its mother organization, the Rotary Club of Boracay aims to be a moving force for change in their area while still working within the organizations motto of, Service above self. They are actively working on sustainable and relevant projects for the locale.
For their different projects and activities, the Rotary Club of Boracay follows the four avenues of service that all Rotary Club divisions follow.
Club service is focused on the good relationship among the members of the organization. The Rotary Club of Boracay often organizes events for its members to gather such as regular meetings for members, celebrating Rotary International activities, and even Family Month.
Vocational service is focused on serving others while following good moral principles of working. This goes hand-in-hand with community service which is focused on making the quality of life better for the people in their areas of responsibility. The Rotary Club of Boracay has environmental projects such as rehabilitating and maintaining marine life sanctuaries in their areas. They are also actively involved in helping public schools get on their feet by assisting them in needed structure repairs. Deserving students are awarded one year vocational courses by the group as well. For the indigent communities, the Rotary Club of Boracay is actively participating in feeding programs, livelihood programs and building functional infrastructures for the communities needs.
Lastly, international service is focused on sharing the benefits of understanding and peace. The group sponsors different projects that build awareness and concern for indigent community members, importance of education and the arts, and taking care of and being responsible for animals.
Being a member of the Rotary Club of Boracay enhances leadership skills by allowing one to take a bigger part in developing their community and working with other valuable sectors of their community. This opens opportunities for members to interact with other professionals, locale or otherwise, and open more contacts and relationships. The Rotary Club of Boracay also emphasizes the involvement of the family in the different organization activities and projects.
All of Rotary Club of Boracays activities, projects and membership updates are chronicled in their official publication, Ang Silak.
The Rotary Club of Boracay truly is on its way to achieve one of its main missions, to be the foremost effective non-government organization in their locale. However, not to forget that in all these efforts, the Rotary Club of Boracay still wants to promote Boracay as one of the premier destinations for local and foreign visitors.
