Mt. Luho
When people think of Boracay images of beaches and diving sites are the ones that come to mind. For thrill seekers and adventurers though, nothing comes close to the adrenaline rush that Mt. Luho View Point brings.
The trek up to Mt. Luho View Point is not just about going up the mountain because you will also pass by the park (there is an entrance fee of 50 Philippine Peso), which also has a host of other attractions, including a wildlife reserve featuring the famous Philippine Eagle, various types of birds, snakes, the alamid (wild cat), monkeys and the bayawak.
Other sites that you will see when you go to Mt. Luho View Point is the Fairways and Bluewater Golf Course and the Alta de Vista de Boracay, site of several condos and other housing projects. From the same vantage point you can also see the famous Puka, or Yapak Beach, whose white sands are among the most renowned on the island.
Of course the highlight is the summit of Mt. Luho itself, which is the tallest peak in Boracay. From the top you get a view of the island that you will not get anywhere else. Because the ascent is not that hard, even beginners will have no difficulty making the climb.
To get to Mt. Luho View Point the traveler has three options. If you are coming from White Beach (which is situated on the western part of Boracay), you can take a walk up to main street until you get to the Pacific Patio. This used to be called the Pink Patio, so if you hear some people refer to it by that name, do not get confused. From there you just go by the access road near Bulabog Beach.
From the main access road, make a left and keep going straight until you get to Mt. Luho View Point.
Another option (and the one often exercised by visitors) is to simply hire a tricycle driver to take you to Mt. Luho View Point in Boracay. The cost can range anywhere from 150 to 250 Philippine Pesos, although you can get it for much lower if you know how to bargain.
The third alternative (and the most expensive) is to lease an ATV so you can go up Mt. Luho View Point. If this is the option you want to use, there are several of these vehicles available for rent at the Fairways & Bluewater Resort Golf & Country Club.
Trekking up Mt. Luho is a great alternative to swimming and snorkeling, and certainly adds a dimension to your trip that you may not have expected. If you want to try something new the next time you are in Boracay, you should give this a shot.
