Laurel Island
Boracay once again shines with the variety of dive sites that tourists and dive lovers can visit and experience. Lauren Island is one of those five star dive destination in the Philippines and in Boracay of course. We will be telling you everything you need to know about this dive site so that you will definitely be prepared and enjoy the dive once you are there.
Laurel Island is located right behind the Crocodile Island dive spot and from the shores of Boracay it takes you about 45 minutes up to an hour to get to the Island with a boat. The island itself has two dive sites called Laurel Island and Laurel Tunnel and both dive make a perfect day trip worth of diving.
In the Laurel Island dive site you will be able to see many soft and hard corals as well as plenty of nudibranchs of different colors. The Laurel Island dive site also has small caves that will awaken the little explorer in you, but do not pursue caves unless you are at least advanced open water or if you have taken the cave diving specialty course. The Laurel Tunnel dive site is a tunnel-like place where you can dive through. You will find plenty of barrel sponges and other sponges. In both places you will find various flora and fauna and plenty of fishes, so make sure to bring your underwater camera with you.
Both dive sites require the open water level, but as mentioned earlier it is better to have the advanced level if you are thinking of exploring caves and such. The minimum depth for both dives is 5 meters with a maximum depth of 20 meters. Currents stay quite moderate, but it is always advisable to be a little more experienced so that you can enjoy the dive more.
The cost for a daytrip to the Laurel Island can amount up to $50 for two dives. It may be a little more or less depending on the dive resort or dive guide you are going with. The price however includes the fair, the guide and the extra equipments such as weights and tanks. Nitrox will cost about $5 to $10 more than regular air, and you have to inform your dive shop ahead of time, because in high season you will find plenty of people diving and using up the Nitrox.
