Dead Forest
The Dead Forest is an interesting tourist attraction in Boracay. Normally, dead things would not attract people unless they were going to a cemetery. The Dead Forest is a product of a biological imbalance or occurrence where a local saltwater dam broke and the saltwater flowed into the nearby forest and killed off the vegetation - hence the name. The rich forest life like mangroves were completely destroyed and any trace of them are marked by stumps or shoots protruding from the waters surface.
From its appearance, several romantic stories and songs of love lost have been created around the place. Tales of ghost and the supernatural have sprung up over the years and have many variations depending on the people you ask.
The Dead Forest is located towards the southern part of the Bulabog Boracay Beach. One can reach the Dead Forest by walking along Lagutan road from the main hi-way or by direct walk from the beach itself. There is no entrance charge or viewing charge at all. It is open to the public.
The Dead Forest is also well known for its photographic location. Many photographers have visited the Dead Forest to take pictures of its still waters and dead plantation. Many photographers have come home with many memorable shots of the place.
The Dead Forest is also a cooling place for the local animals that have gotten too much sun. A lot of the local animal life like horses and carabaos frequent the place and submerge themselves. It is not a place to for people to go if they would like to swim for it may contain some substances that may cause irritation or rashes. If one intends to visit this place, one should bring a bug repellent or bug spray to ward of the various insects that lurk there.
There has been talk of reviving the Dead Forest but it would take a lot of resources on the local government and as of now it is yet under assessment.
