Channel Drift

From the party events to the marine life; everything can be found in Boracay. This island may as well be the divers paradise because it has the greatest beaches in the country and it has the world class dive sites that every diver could wish for. Today, we will be presenting you an interesting drift dive that absolutely has to be part of your diving itinerary and the spot that we are taking you is called the Channel Drift dive site.

The Channel Drift is also known as the Channel Steps by the locals in Boracay. The Channel Drift is located right in between the Boracay Island and the Aklan mainland. It will take you around 15 to 30 minutes to get to the dive site via motorboat or speed boat and you can take a boat from either boat station one, two or three. This drift dive site can tear your gear away so make sure you got your BCD strapped tightly and your mask on properly before jumping into the section on what you can see in this dive site.

The Channel Drift dive site is like a coral garden full of flora and fauna. You will find interesting rocks and rock formations, hard and soft corals and most importantly fishes. You will find plenty of schools of fishes here, such as schools of batfish, sweetlips, snappers and stingrays. You can also see trevallies swimming around and if you are lucky you may sight a white tip shark or a reef shark.

The Channel Drift dive site can have very strong currents and although open water diver can dive within the Channel Drift, most of the guides prefer if you have an advanced open water certification. The minimum depth of this dive site is 5 meters, but it can go all the way to a maximum depth of 36 meters. The Channel Drift is a strait that will allow the diver to drift through the canyons of the dive site, which can be very fun, but the diver has to have experience with drift dives. If you have other safety questions about the Channel Drift dive, you can ask your dive guide on the location about certain procedures, and always make sure to show your dive guide the 100 bar sign and the 50 bar sign.

The cost for the Channel Drift dive should not be more than $35 which is already inclusive of transportation via boat or land, dive guide, weights and tanks. You can also plan a dive safari or a day trip to Laurel Island, Crocodile Island and then the Channel Drift depending on the rates and packages your dive resort or dive shop has.
