Bicycle Rental
Boracay is a haven for people from all walks of life because it offers a myriad of activities not only for those wanting to just spend idle time lounging in the beach but also for those seeking adventure. If you know how to pedal a bicycle, why not rent a mountain bike from the resort you're staying and explore the other treasures of Boracay that are usually hidden from tourists? Bicycle rental ranges from USD1-2 per hour (Php50-100). But you can still bargain for the price, especially if you're renting for the entire day.
The island of Boracay stretches for about 25 kilometers and offers varied terrains and scenic routes to those who have the heart for some challenging but quite enjoyable mountain biking. A map of the island (sold in the Tourist Center) is very essential to help you plan your route.
You can pedal your way up to the highest peak in the island through loose, and often steep, dirt roads to finally embrace the breathtaking view of the pristine water and white shores below dotted with colorful hotels and cottages. You may while your time away, read a book, munch at whatever foodstuff you bring with you, inhale the crisp cool unpolluted air, or just drown yourself in the natural beauty that has made Boracay famous all over the world. Make sure you bring your sun block, though, especially when you're biking in the midday because there won't be a lot of shady places to shield yourself from the sun. That's why it's always advisable to bike at dawn or nearing dusk and watch the magnificent colors of the sunset from above.
Going downhill could be an equally exciting experience as going uphill as you will be able to bike through trees and shrubs as well as clusters of small nipa huts. Get your camera ready to capture the welcoming smiles of the villagers who are ever too willing to let you into their homes and offer food or offer native food --- a genuine sign of the famous Filipino hospitality. Some will offer to take you on a tour --- some for free, others of a very small charge.
If there's still ample time and light, you may opt to try a steep single trail that will take you to a deserted beach, where you can either take a short nap or dip in the cool clear water. If it's low tide, you can also bike your way along the shoreline to your hotel.
Mountain biking is ideally capped with a swim in the sea, while basking in the cool sunset, and then filling your tummies with Boracay's yummy street delicacies before finally retreating to your hotel to rest and rejuvenate for another memorable day in paradise.
