2014 Asian Beach Games

Such is the beauty of Boracay that it is not only a favorite among tourist and vacationers, but it is also becoming a frequent choice for hosting big international events including the 2014 Asian Beach Games.

The Games take place every two years, and the first one was held in Bali, Indonesia. During the meeting of the OCA (Olympic Council of Asia), it was agreed upon that the 2010 Asian Beach Games will be held in Muscat, Oman and the 2014 Asian Beach Games at Boracay Island.

That the island was chosen is no surprise to most industry observers, owing to the fact that it has been hosting other international events successfully (such as the International Dragon Boating Festival held in late April). In addition, there are very few places in the world that can compare with the beauty of its beaches and landscape, which make for the perfect staging area for the various games and competitions.

The 2014 Asian Beach Games is scheduled to take place on May of the aforementioned year. It will be right in the midst of summer, and as such makes the staging of the event ideal, as it is the peak season in Boracay Island and will definitely draw in the crowds.

Originally part of the Asian Games, the sport has grown in popularity as the number of participating teams continue to increase. During the previous games in Bali, Indonesia, the Philippine contingent competed in 13 of the 17 events and sent nearly 200 athletes. The 2014 Asian Beach Games, which will also take place in the same year as the Asian Games, will likely feature more Asian countries, and the number of games, as in the past events, will continue to grow in number.

Among the most popular sporting events in the 2014 Asian Beach Games where the Philippines and the other Asian countries will compete in include swimming, beach soccer, sailing and the ever popular beach volleyball. Other extreme watersports like windsurfing, sailing, jet ski, water polo, and dragon boat racing are included. Other events are the triathlon, wrestling and woodball. It is widely expected that the participants for the upcoming event will be the largest ever.

The 2014 Asian Beach Games that are to be held Boracay Island is not just an opportunity for athletes to excel, but it will also provide the island and the country an opportunity to once more display their world renowned hospitality and world class ability to host large scale events and tournaments.
